Assign or Change a Group's Case/Group Role and Privileges

Groups can have a specific role and/or privileges in conjunction with their case assignment. This is called the “case/group” role and privileges. This role/these privileges will be in effect only when group members are working in the case. By default, a group has no case-related role or privileges.

For details on how Eclipse SE manages group roles/privileges, see Control System Access Using Groups, Users, Roles, and Privileges.

Assign Case/Group Privileges

To assign a case-specific role and privileges in the Group Management workspace, you must be a Super Administrator. Complete the following steps to assign a case/group role and/or privileges.

(This procedure assumes you have assigned case(s) to the group as explained in Assign Cases to Groups or Change Case Group Assignments.)

  1. Start Eclipse SE Administration and log in as Super Administrator.
  2. Click the Case Management tab.
  3. In the navigation panel, expand the User/Group Management menu and click Group Management.
  4. In the left pane of the Group Management workspace, click the group for which a case/group role and/or privileges are to be assigned.
  5. In the Case Assignments section of the workspace:
    1. Click the case for which the group’s role/privileges are being defined.
    2. Right-click the selected case and select Modify Role and Privileges from the context menu.
  6. In the Modify Privileges dialog box, select the needed role, then change privileges if needed.
  7. When finished, click OK. The group will now have the assigned role/ privileges when working in the case.
  8. If needed, inform the group members of the changes.

Remove Case/Group Role and Privileges

Case/group role and privileges that have been assigned can be changed or removed as follows:

  1. If a group member is working on the case, notify the user to exit the case.
  2. Start Eclipse SE Administration and log in as Super Administrator.
  3. Click the Case Management tab.
  4. In the navigation panel, expand the User/Group Management menu and click Group Management.
  5. In the left pane of the Group Management workspace, click the needed group.
  6. Right-click the selected case and select Clear Role and Privileges from the context menu. The case/group role changes to (not set), and the role/ privileges take effect.
