Technology Assisted Reviews (TAR)
About TAR
IPRO Eclipse’s Technology-Assisted Review (TAR) uses advanced technologies to assist in the identification of responsive documents, that is, documents that are relevant to the issues/needs of the case. Using TAR can help your firm improve review accuracy and lower review costs and risks.
Particularly beneficial for cases with large document sets, TAR combines with human expertise to allow documents to be classified more efficiently and accurately than with a human-only review.
The primary focus of a TAR project is document responsiveness, but your administrator may also incorporate other review tasks in the TAR review.
TAR Review Passes
The TAR project workflow includes three review passes (“rounds”):
-
Training: reviewers evaluate documents in a training set and tag them with TAR document tags (Responsive, Not Responsive, and optionally, Do Not Use as Example).
-
Validation: a reviewer evaluates a sample of remaining documents to identify additional responsive/nonresponsive documents in the project. This round is repeated on different samples until the administrator is confident about the level of agreement between human review and the IPRO Eclipse TAR evaluation.
-
Certification (optional): when the goal of TAR is to limit the number of documents to be reviewed by humans (unreviewed documents are considered to be unresponsive), a reviewer evaluates a final set of documents.
TAR Components
After your administrator creates a TAR project, he or she will provide TAR reviewers with instructions on using TAR-specific components to review documents. These components include:
