Drag-and-Drop Items on Presentation Display

If you need to call up an item on the fly when presenting in TRIAL DIRECTOR, a quick and simple method for doing so is via the drag-and-drop method. There are two options available for presenting items in this way. You can:

  • Open the Presentation screen on a secondary monitor, then drag and drop the items from the primary monitor directly onto the Presentation screen.
  • Open both the Presentation screen and the Presentation Preview screen. Ensure the two are synchronized by turning on Mirror Mode. Then drag-and-drop items onto the Preview screen. These items appear both on Preview and in Presentation.

The sections below provide instructions on how to complete these two procedures.

Where to Drag-and-Drop Items From

You can drag-and-drop items from File Explorer, or from applicable explorers in the TRIAL DIRECTOR Evidence module. Applicable explorers you can drag and drop from in Evidence include:

  • Documents Explorer
  • Transcripts Explorer
  • Clips Explorer
  • Workbooks Explorer
  • Multimedia Explorer
  • Playlist Explorer
  • Case Explorer

Drag-and-Drop Items Directly into Presentation

You can set an option in Presentation Preferences to enable the Presentation screen to display on a secondary monitor. Then you can drag-and-drop items from the primary monitor to the Presentation display on the secondary monitor to quickly load and display the items.

  1. Enable the Presentation screen to display on a secondary monitor by setting the option in Presentation Preferences.
  2. On the primary monitor, locate the item you would like to present. You can drag and drop from an explorer in Evidence, or from Windows File Explorer.

Note: You can present an item from File Explorer by using the drag-and-drop method. However an item presented in this way will not be added to the case. To add the item in question, you must add it manually in the Evidence module.

  3. Click and drag the selected item over to the Presentation display on the secondary monitor.

  4. Center your cursor over the zone where you want to display the item. Look at the Select Zone/Zone Indicator to ensure that the desired zone is selected, as indicated by a red outline.

  5. Release the cursor. The item displays in the selected zone.

Drag-and-Drop Items Into Preview

You also have the option to drag and drop items onto the Presentation Preview screen, in the Evidence module, and have them display both on the Preview and Presentation screens simultaneously.

  1. Enable the Presentation screen to display on a secondary monitor by setting the option in Presentation Preferences.
  2. Ensure the Presentation Preview screen is open on the primary monitor, and that Mirror Mode has been turned on. Mirror Mode synchronizes Preview and Presentation, so that any changes made to the Preview screen also display on Presentation.
  3. On the primary monitor, locate the item you would like to present. You can drag and drop from an explorer in Evidence, or from Windows File Explorer.

Note: You can present an item from File Explorer via the drag-and-drop method, however an item presented in this way will not be added to the case. To add the item in question, you must add it manually in the Evidence module.

  4. Click and drag the selected item over the Presentation Preview window.

  5. Center your cursor over the zone where you want to display the item. Look at the Select Zone/Zone Indicator to ensure that the desired zone is selected, as indicated by a red outline.

  6. Release the cursor. The item appears in the selected zone, both on the Preview screen and in Presentation.
