Import a Case

Important: Import/Export should not be used to work offline on a Data Sync-enabled case. To work offline on a Data Sync-enabled case, bring the case data local and then sync up again when you connect to the network. For more information, see Overview: Data Sync.

In Case Manager, you can archive a case using the Export Case option. Later, you can import the case into Case Story. Additionally, you can import a case from a different subscription. This option may be helpful for Trial Consultants who contract with various law firms:

  • For non-Data Sync enabled cases - You cannot import the original case onto the same machine if it still exists in Case Story or TRIAL DIRECTOR on that machine. If you need to do so, you must first delete the case on the machine, after which you can complete the case import process.

Important: If you delete the local copy of the case, any changes made since the case was exported will be lost.

  • For Data Sync-enabled cases - If you attempt to import a case that is configured as a Data Sync-enabled case for your subscription, the system will import a copy of the case but it will be disconnected from the Data Sync-enabled case. Any changes you make to the case on the machine will be local to the machine.

To import a case:

  1. Open Case Manager.

  2. Double-click on a case to open it.

  3. Click the Import Case button.

    The Import Case window appears.

  4. Click the Browse button and browse to the folder where the case is stored. When finished, click OK.

Important: Depending on the size of the case, the import process may take some time.

  5. Click Import.
